Besides my old favourite, a chalkboard, many devices are available to score a darts leg or match for you. The development of soft-tipped darts resulted from an American, Rudy Alison, who visited Ireland and viewed a local darts match. He watched how some struggled to mark the game. With his company Arachid, which then made balloon inflators, he hired Dick Jones to help develop a self-scoring dartboard, the result, the first soft-tip, self-scoring dartboard. But to the purists of the game, soft-tip darts weren’t darts. Nevertheless, Soft-tip dart is a game played by millions across America, Asia and Europe, less so in the British Isles and Ireland.
Technology has moved on, and online scoring software is where many professional matches are recorded and can be viewed by anyone who links in. Even self-scoring steel-tip dartboards and dartboard surrounds can now scan a traditional dartboard and score the game. However, if you are looking for a basic game/leg scorer, I have designed one for you to use. There are two versions: one design for the PC, iPad large Tablet, and the other for smaller mobile devices.
The Darts-Oche Leg scorer is a basic darts game scorer that will prompt you with an outshot when one is available. To start you may wish to enter the player's names or just leave the titles as Player 1, Player 2.
To enter your names just click on the ‘Player 1’ and enter the name you want and again with ’Player 2’.
Now select the ’01 game you wish to play from 1,001, 701, 501, 301
to reset the score for a new game just click on the ’01 game you wish to play i.e. 501
Enter your score and press enter. If you enter the wrong score just press undo and re-enter the score. The scorer is designed to prompt outshots combination when your score can be finished within three darts. The checkout finishes are just guides and you may prefer your own combination out shot.
Match and stats are not supported with this basic scorer however there are many on the internet that will show this detail.
If you want more Dart game scorers that provide additional feedback, I have a few written in Microsoft Excel on the Darts501.com website. I have written a couple of these for both ’01 games and cricket. Some more advanced versions have also been supplied to me for publication, as well as links to PCs and mobile apps that also take on this task.
